About Us
The DSAC serves as the liaison between the students and faculty. In addition, DSAC organizes social, academic development and volunteering events. All GSPH students are encouraged to participate - it's a great way to meet new people and serve your community.

Justin Curole (President)
Justin Curole is a second year epidemiology MPH student. He is a 2009 GSDBA Scholar and US Public Health Service Trainee. His interests are in the intersection of HIV, LGBT health disparities and psychiatric disorders. He has held previous positions at the UCSF Transplant Lab and UC San Diego's Antiviral Research Center. Currently, he is serving as an evaluation intern at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. When not studying, working, or volunteering, Justin enjoys photography, culinary explorations and being an opera critic.

Philippe Duhaime (Vice President)
Philippe Duhaime is a second year MPH student in the epidemiology division. He is a French Canadian Chicano who has lived in San Diego for most of his life. His interests lie in border and international health, preventive medicine, and infectious disease. He was a project specialist on the Hispanic Community Health Study for the past two years and is now working on a study to track the spread of HIV and Hep C in young intravenous drug users. When he is not being a nerd, Philippe loves to surf and travel.

Tomo Hirano (Secretary)
Tomo Hirano is a second year MPH-Epidemiology student. Her interests are international infectious diseases, especially HIV/AIDS, and health disparities. Tomo has interned at the Institute for Public Health (IPH) where she conducted research, specifically within the Asian Pacific Islander Community in San Diego County. She is originally from Japan, and she loves meeting new people and exchanging different cultures and ideas.

Lauren Joe (Public Relations)
Lauren Joe is a second year Epidemiology student who is interested in public health practice and research that addresses health inequalities among different populations. She had the opportunity to intern with the Health Policy and Planning Department at the San Mateo County Health System this past summer where she researched, analyzed and described statistics for the 1999-2006 San Mateo County Injury Report. She currently interns with Active Living Research, a national program that conducts research to investigate how environments and policies affect physical activity for children and families in low-income and high-risk racial/ethnic communities. Lauren is passionate about food, fitness and friends. She'd love the opportunity to chat with you!
