2008 T-Shirt Contest Notes

see all the original entries

Highlights from the 2008 t-shirt contest:

  • Design 2B was the overall winner, and combined votes for designs 2A/2B/2C won by a 2-to-1 margin over the runners-up. 68% of voters were "highly likely" to order something with their top design, so we expect it will be popular. Most of you preferred white and heather gray garments with an Aztec theme, so we altered the design to print better with these colors.

  • There were three logos (11, 14, 16) that virtually tied in that category, but with fewer votes, and only 57% of voters were "highly likely" to order something with their top logo choice. With less enthusiasm for these options, we're going to table them for now and look for other ways to incorporate them into GSPH gear.

  • There was greatest interest in women's shirts, hoodies, and tote/grocery bags (nice environmental choice). No surprises here; demographics have spoken!

  • Only 29% of you preferred a "professional look," so we're going to keep it casual. If our needs change, we can revisit.

  • 89% of you were willing to pay slightly more for higher-quality garments. You will be pleased, but not broke.

  • Several of you requested organic or sweatshop-free materials. To maximize social responsibility and leave the smallest footprint would double the cost. DSAC cannot impose this on everyone, but we are conscious of these issues. The garments we chose are mostly made abroad but tagged with a code that represents compliance with broad international labor standards, and are likely made from US-grown cotton anyway. We've looked into this. :-)
