Keynote Address - the Benenson Distinguished Lecture
This year's Benenson Distinguished Lecture will be presented by Gregory C. Gray. The lecture is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am.
"Zoonotic Diseases: Their Public Health Importance and Neglect"
Gregory C. Gray, MD, MPH, FIDSA

Dr. Gray is a professor of epidemiology and international programs in
the University of Iowa's College of Public Health. He directs the
University of Iowa's Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases. His
medical boards are in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine, and
he is a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and a board
member of the International Society for Influenza and Other Respiratory
Virus Diseases.
Dr. Gray received his BS in Bioscience from the US Naval
Academy, his MD from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and his MPH
from John Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. He is the
recipient of a number of awards for his epidemiological work and
teaching, including the Legion of Merit, Secretary Defense Medal for
Outstanding Public Service, and the University of Iowa College of Public
Health Faculty Teaching Award (2005) and Faculty Research Award (2007).
He has conducted epidemiological studies of emerging pathogens and
tropical infectious diseases in the United States, as well as in remote
areas of South America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. His research
interests include zoonotic infections, respiratory viruses, rapid
diagnostics, vaccine trials, and tropical infectious diseases.
Currently, he is studying adenovirus and zoonotic influenza infections
in Cambodia, Mongolia, Nigeria, Romania, Thailand, and United States. He
has authored more than 150 publications in peer-reviewed medical
literature.
