Biography:

Dr. Ana P. Martinez-Donate is an Assistant Professor of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences at the Graduate School of Public Health, San Diego State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Health Psychology from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, as well as an Expert Degree on Epidemiology from the National School of Public Health in Spain. Her research interests include chronic disease management, HIV prevention, and tobacco use and policies among Latino populations. Currently, she is serving as Co-Principal Investigator for a binational, multi-site project to examine cross-border effects of the California Tobacco Control Program and identify factors associated with smoking, exposure to secondhand smoke, and home policies on smoking among Mexicans and Mexican Americans in San Diego, Tijuana, and Guadalajara. Dr. Martinez-Donate is also serving as Principal Investigator for a collaborative study to design and test the effectiveness of a social marketing campaign to increase condom use and HIV testing among non-gay identified Latino men who have sex with men. In addition, she is a Co-Investigator for an ongoing HIV Center Grant awarded to the Center for Behavioral Epidemiology & Community Health to promote HIV prevention research in the U.S.-Mexico border region.
