Biography: Michael Peddecord joined the SDSU faculty in 1981. Continuing his activities as an emeritus part time faculty, he teaches, advises students and has administrative responsibilities. His current health services research interests include: adult and adolescent immunization, quality improvement and evaluation of public health, community and institutional based programs, adolescent health and preventive services, and clinical laboratory quality and regulation. He is currently consultant and was a formerly a co-director of the UCSD/SDSU/San Diego County Immunization Partnership (SDIP) which contracts for many activities at the Immunization Branch of County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. He is currently a co-principal investigator on two CDC grants promoting influenza vaccination and adolescent preventive services. He is founding member for the Community Health Improvement Partners and serves on the steering committee. As a member of the Grossmont Healthcare District Independent Citizens Oversight Committee, he provides a service to citizens of eastern San Diego County assuring that Proposition G bond funds and used effectively for construction at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. He is a research associate at the Center for Child Health Outcomes at Rady Children's Hospital and Health Center and consults with several local health care systems including the Navy Health Services Research Center and Sharp Grossmont Hospital. He also provides advice to the San Diego First5 Commission as a member of the evaluation leadership team.
Between July 2001 and July 2003 he served as the interim director of the school's Institute for Public Health which coordinates program evaluation for public health projects, continuing professional education, health department liaison, and community based practice projects for and field placements for students. He also actively works for abolition of the death penalty.
