Master of Public Health/Master of Arts - Latin American Studies
Admission Requirements and Application
To request information about the concurrent graduate program in Public Health and Latin American Studies, applicants should contact either Brenda Fass-Holmes in the SDSU Graduate School of Public Health, or Dr. Jim Gerber, the SDSU Latin American Studies Director.
When completing the application, please send a copy to the GSPH and a copy to Latin American Studies. Indicate in your narrative statement that you wish to be considered for admission to the concurrent degree program in Latin American Studies and your chosen area of concentration in Public Health (Epidemiology, Health Promotion, or Environmental Health).
In order to be considered for the concurrent MPH/MA program, applicants must:
- Meet the general requirements for admission to graduate study at the University as detailed in Part Two of the Graduate Bulletin.
- Have a minimum 2.85 grade point average in the last 60 semester or 90 quarter units in undergraduate work completed.
- Have a satisfactory score on the GRE General Test. Applicants already holding another master's degree or higher degree from an acceptable accredited graduate school are exempt from the GRE.
- Complete a narrative statement, indicating that the application is for the concurrent program. Send this narrative statement to the Director of graduate programs at the GSPH, Ms. Brenda Fass-Holmes and the director of Latin American Studies, Dr. Jim Gerber.
- Submit two sets of official transcripts from all colleges/universities previously attended to the Director of graduate programs at the GSPH, Ms. Brenda Fass-Holmes and the director of Latin American Studies, Dr. Jim Gerber.
- Submit three letters of recommendation to the Director of graduate programs at the GSPH, Ms. Brenda Fass-Holmes and the director of Latin American Studies, Dr. Jim Gerber.
- Provide additional evidence of competence, or prior academic preparation in Latin American Studies, social and/or behavioral sciences, biological sciences, and/or health sciences.
- Provide evidence of professional and academic activities related to Latin American Studies or the chosen area of concentration in the GSPH.
In addition to these requirements, students must complete:
- application for the GSPH's MPH program
- application to the Latin American Studies program
- university graduate application*
* International applicants, please use the International Student Application. The TOEFL test score is required if postsecondary instruction is in a language other than English. TOEFL scores are sent to Admissions and Records, Institution Code 4682, Department Code 0000.
