SDSU MOVE/Me Muevo (Obesity Prevention & Control in Community Recreation Centers) is a study funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases to evaluate the effectiveness of a multi-level intervention to prevent the onset of overweight and obesity in 7-9 year old children from diverse backgrounds throughout San Diego County. Under supervision by the Measurement Director, perform field data collection with up to 540 diverse 6-7 yr old children and parents at 30 San Diego area recreation centers or family homes. Data collection includes obtaining height, weight, and BIA body fat measurements, distributing and collecting activity monitors & administering surveys. Duties will include: performing data collection, maintaining quality & confidentiality of data; performing data quality control checks & data entry; preparing measurement materials & equipment; transporting data & equipment to field sites; performing other administrative functions related to data collection; assisting with recruitment of family study participants; attending local measurement trainings; other duties as assigned.

Two part time positions are available.

Requirements:Minimum Qualifications: Some college coursework, preferably in exercise, behavioral, or health sciences. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to: work well with of children and families in diverse neighborhoods throughout San Diego County; complete detailed work accurately and efficiently; quickly learn & follow specific research methods & procedures; multi-task; be flexible in dealing with changing schedules and priorities; work effectively as part of a team; follow oral & written directions; lift & carry up to 35 pounds. Must be available to work variable hours on Mondays AND Thursdays plus Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 1:00-8:00 pm. May be need for occasional work on Fridays or Saturdays. Comfortable using computers, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs & e-mail. Reliable transportation to travel and transport equipment to recreation centers and family homes throughout San Diego County (mileage reimbursement policy exists), fingerprint background check, proof of car insurance, valid California auto registration & driver's license, & current DMV report are required.

Preferred Qualifications: Undergraduate degree, preferably in exercise, behavioral, or health sciences. Experience in health or behavioral science research projects or health/fitness fields(s), field data collection experience, data entry experience, or experience working with children or families are highly preferred. Fluent in Spanish and English speaking and writing.

Compensation:$10.00 - $12.00 per hour - hourly, temporary
