Job Title:Health Educator/Social Marketing Specialist

Location:San Diego, CA
Description:This position is with Project SMART (Social Marketing As a Resource Tool), a five year project to reduce HIV infection among Latinos funded by the Centers for Disease Control. The project provides technical assistance and conducts skill-building trainings and workshops to agencies serving Latinos throughout the country. Some areas covered include the design, implementation and evaluation of social marketing campaigns, collection, assessment and analysis of data, developing tools to effectively disseminate a message and achieve desired behavior change in target populations.

This position will work with 6-8 client agencies at any given time, providing staff training, consultation and technical assistance towards the planning and implementation of a social marketing campaign. This may include creating training modules on social marketing basics, conducting focus groups, developing effective messages (including posters, PSAs, billboards, etc), defining the target population and specific efforts to reach it, evaluation techniques and promoting agency collaboration. This position will report directly to the HIV Prevention Program Manager.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in the Health, Social Services or Education areas or other related field or equivalent experience required (Masters is optional).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including significant experience in making presentations to small and large professional groups.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing a health education intervention especially in the area of HIV/STD prevention
  • Familiarity with social marketing and other efforts to promote changes in behavior in order to improve the health of individuals or population groups.
  • Cultural competency is required and ability to speak Spanish is desired.
  • Experience working with multicultural and diverse populations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software packages.
  • Strong organizational skills, professional demeanor, work ethic and time management skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Travel throughout the United States is required.
