The Group Market Planning Manager participates actively in Genentechs commercial planning efforts by providing unbiased, objective, in-depth information about current and future markets, product performance, customers, and competitors. Additionally, he or she identifies critical business issues and opportunities for growth, collaborates with Genentech teams, and works to embed an external market point-of view into the strategic direction of the company.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Support strategic decision making across functional areas to help maximize Genentechs commercial success.
  • Provide an objective commercial viewpoint based on an in-depth understanding and analysis of commercial information.
  • Partner with sales/marketing, commercial development, product development, medical affairs, research, therapeutic area teams, finance, manufacturing, and others.
  • Evaluate the market landscape, monitor changes in market dynamics and competition. Provide recommendations on product differentiation strategies.
  • Be the customer expert. Provide recommendations to align customer practices and needs with Genentech product strategy.
  • Identify and track key performance metrics for brands.
  • Work with marketing to develop and validate promotional strategies and tactics. Analyze success of these programs.
  • Create, validate and refine forecasts for in-line products, new indications and new market opportunities. Communicate revenue information throughout the organization.
  • Successfully employ secondary and primary market research techniques to accomplish the above. Manage vendor relationships, act as liaison between team and research vendors to conduct a wide range of market analysis efforts.
Requirements:Capabilities:

  • Ability to represent the Market Planning function on core, commercial, and development assessment teams. Includes first-line accountability for Market Planning contributions, management of team relationships and provision of information and recommendations.
  • Successfully influences team decisions via clear and persuasive analysis and market research. Proactively identifies implications for product strategy.
  • Strong command of a variety of analytical and market research techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with individuals and teams.
  • Uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions. Uses creativity and ingenuity to develop solutions to complex problems, formulates strategies and approaches which may fall outside historical norms.
  • Demonstrates persuasive written and verbal communication skills. Is viewed as an excellent presenter.
  • Exposure to and comfort with higher management. Ability to sell ideas to senior executives of the company.
  • Can deal with ambiguity and act without having the total picture. Can handle risk and uncertainty.
  • Operates autonomously
  • May manage up to one direct report.

Qualifications/Background:

  • Masters degree in business or related field is required, with an undergraduate degree in science or business strongly preferred.
  • Six to eight years experience in healthcare industry. Three to four years experience post-graduate degree. Experience in biopharmaceuticals and/or management consulting is preferred.
  • Experience developing and using Excel-based models and conducting quantitative analysis.
  • Relevant therapeutic area expertise is a plus.
