Description:Two positions. Counseling Psychology. Two tenure track positions as Assistant Professor of Psychology beginning August 25, 2008. We are looking for two Counseling psychologists with strong research skills, specializations in an area relevant to health, and the drive and potential to obtain external funds to join our APA-accredited Collaborative Program in Counseling Psychology. Priority will be given to applicants with specializations consistent with funding agencies’ interests (e.g., minority health, treatment efficacy, psychological aspects of medical conditions, behavioral medicine, prevention, and health education) and who are licensed or license-eligible. Teaching responsibilities will include graduate and/or undergraduate seminars in the applicant’s area of specialization, supervision of graduate and undergraduate student research, and other graduate and undergraduate courses consistent with the applicant’s background and departmental needs (e.g., courses in diversity, practicum, assessment or professional issues). Applicants who will enhance the diversity of the present faculty are especially sought. Preference will go to those applicants with evidence of research productivity and a strong interest in diversity.

The University of Akron has the third largest principal campus enrollment of Ohio’s state universities. Today, nearly 23,000 students from 10 states and 68 countries are enrolled. The University offers 17 doctoral degree programs, over 100 master’s degree programs and options, and more than 200 majors leading to associate and undergraduate degrees. The University is situated in Northeast Ohio in one of the 100 largest metropolitan areas.

The successful applicant will join a 20-member department with a large and thriving undergraduate student body and doctoral programs. Only persons with a doctorate in Counseling Psychology will be considered, and all requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed prior to the start date. Requirements:Advanced degree Health Services Research, e.g. Biostatistics, Epidemiology or Public Health required (Master level minimum/PhD preferred). Minimum 5 years experience in patient-based assessment, surveys, registries, and statistical programming. Strong project management skills. Proficiency in analytic software (e.g., SAS (required), SPSS, ACCESS). Strong knowledge, experience in healthcare clinical setting (e.g., pharmacist, nurse). Demonstrated ability to prioritize work load and meet project deadlines. Experience with piggy-back health economic studies. Knowledge, experience in pharmaceutical and/or medical device industry is preferred with understanding of healthcare reimbursement environment. Strong leadership skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong communication, interpersonal and management skills.
