Description:New Practice Based Research Network (PBRN) seeks a researcher to develop and manage studies between Southern Illinois University Medical School and Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with over 71,000 patients. Programmatic and health research proposals will be developed based on the interests and needs of the community; health center physicians; the Medical School; and probability of funding.

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time

The Practice Research Manager is responsible for managing the development and operation of Southern Illinois Practice Research Organization (SIPRO), a collaborative Practice Based Research Network. The position will manage Network planning and development coordination between Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation and Southern Illinois University School of Medicine to include the following: research areas of mutual interest; proposals that improve the delivery of health services; improving population-based health care and health system outcomes; enhance educational processes; recruiting internal physician researchers and physician participants in research studies; seeking external funding, and other health related projects.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position is primarily sedentary and involves the performance of non-strenuous activities of an administrative nature. It may also require repetitive sitting/standing and walking while carrying presentation materials that weigh as much as 50 pounds. Travel within Illinois and to out of state meetings is required. A valid drivers license and automobile insurance are required.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, dayshift. Regular travel between East St. Louis and Springfield will be required. There will be evening meetings. Attendance at off site meetings will be required with potential overnight stay.

Requirements:Candidate should have strong bio-statistics, epidemiology, research design and interpersonal skills. Students nearing completion of all advanced degrees will be considered.

  • Bachelors Degree in health care, business or related field is required. A masters degree is preferred.
  • Two years experience in project management, administrative/coordination experience preferably in either a health care or a post-secondary learning environment.
  • Successful administrative experience in health clinics, physicians offices or in academic settings with a familiarity of research methodological models.
  • Experience in the development, application, and monitoring of project planning and management standards, processes and measurement criteria.

  • Demonstrated management style that includes team building and integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences and at all levels of the organizations.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem solving ability.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple project tasks with multiple professionals in both SIHF and SIU School of Medicine.
  • Demonstrated experience in educational / health care management and work in diverse populations.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with research methodological models / systems, and a general understanding of research-specific regulatory compliance requirements and guidelines.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently utilize available resources to meet the responsibilities of the position.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics.
