There is an opening for a full-time Epidemiologist 3 (non-medical) to serve as the Trauma Epidemiologist in the Division of Health Systems Quality Assurance, Office of EMS and Trauma, Health Systems Quality Assurance at the Washington State Department of Health. Location

The Department of Health, Office of EMS and Trauma is located in Tumwater, Washington, adjacent to Washingtons capital city of Olympia. Tumwater and Olympia are 60 miles south of Seattle, situated at the southern end of beautiful Puget Sound. The Pacific Ocean is a two hour drive to the west and Mt. Rainier is a two hour drive to the east. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound!

Primary Duties

The EMS and trauma Epidemiologist 3 leads the assessment, surveillance, research, analysis and evaluation functions of the Office of EMS and Trauma System. The position is responsible for: Designing and conducting studies and investigations to identify high risk populations, variability in care and outcomes, best practices and system improvements. Collaborating with and disseminating findings to a broad range of public health stakeholders. Maintaining the EMS and trauma system evaluation plan and supporting regional quality improvement programs. Supervising the work of staff responsible for collecting and analyzing public health datasets.

Requirements:Required Qualifications

A Masters degree in epidemiology (or a Masters degree in public health including 12 quarter hours in epidemiology and 12 graduate credits in biostatistics).

Desired Qualifications

A Doctoral (PhD) degree in epidemiology or other health science field and six years of experience in applied epidemiology research and analysis. Working knowledge of EMS and/or trauma systems.

Conditions of Employment

This position requires considerable in-state travel, including to rural areas of the state. Travel may be overnight, and may occur during evening and weekend hours. The position also requires occasional out of state travel.

This position may require work in excess of 40 hours per week - including evenings, weekends, and holidays - to meet critical deadlines.

Compensation:Effective July 1, 2007: $5,557-$7,294 Monthly (Range 71)

Experience

5. Describe your experience interpreting and disseminating data and research findings through reports and presentations. Include a list of published reports with brief description, date published and target audience and a list of local and national presentations with brief description, date of presentation and audience. Please provide a sample of your recent work.

6. Describe your experience developing and leading quality improvement programs. Include the position you held and the number of years of experience.

7. Describe your experience supervising technical staff (e.g. database administrators, data analysts, research assistants). Include the position you held as supervisor, the number of years you supervised, and the number and type of positions you supervised.

8. Describe your working knowledge of EMS and/or trauma systems. Include the position you held and the number of years of experience.
