The County of Orange is a regional service provider and planning agency whose core businesses include regional planning, public safety, environmental protection, public health, community services, and aviation. The County is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors elected by district for four-year overlapping terms. The Board appoints the Director of the Health Care Agency, who reports to the County Chief Executive Officer.
Consistent with the Countys overall mission, the Orange County Health Care Agency maintains and protects the health of its citizens through the planning, organization and coordination of public and private sector efforts to provide a safe and healthful environment and prevent the occurrence and spread of disease. Agency services are carried out by a staff of 2,600 and a FY05-06 budget of $483.5 million. There are four major service areas of the Health Care Agency, which include Medical and Institutional Services, Regulatory Services, Behavioral Health Care, and Public Health.
The Position:
- Plan, develop, and implement an infection control program across all Public Health programs
- Develop, put in effect, and update as needed written Infection Control policies and procedures
- Plan, develop and implement educational programs for all Public Health employees to increase their specialized knowledge and skills regarding current Infection Control standards; this includes prevention and protection techniques that assure a safe environment for both employees and patients
- Investigate any incident reports that identify potential infection control risk to employees and/or patients
- Conduct on-site reviews of Public Health programs to review adherence to infection control standards
- Prepare a written report of findings for each program review and help with corrective plans and assist employees with the implementation of identified corrective actions
- Address the recognition of potentially infectious patients including, but not limited to, patients with signs and symptoms of tuberculosis and ensure appropriate safeguards are in place
- Collaborate with Orange County Health Care Employee Health on issues of exposures, immunizations, and other employee infection control policies
- Serve as the designated liaison between Public Health and the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC)
- Provide support for and coordination with other clinical quality of care issues as requested

| Requirements: | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum two years experience as an Infection Control Professional in an acute care setting
- Must possess a working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic techniques including standard/universal precautions
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have all of the above plus the following:
- Baccalaureate Degree and current California Registered Nurse License (RN)
- Currently Certified in Infection Control (CIC certification) or equivalent
- Masters Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Environmental health, Microbiology, or other health related fields
- Skills in organizational, problem solving, decision making and delegation
- Ability to develop and present educational programs effectively and communicate in a clear, concise and timely manner
- Ability to comprehend and utilize scientific data and statistical techniques/methods; screen data results for variations and/or errors;
- Experience with other health care settings such as Outpatient Clinics or Private Providers offices
- Experience as a liaison, instructor, consultant, and coordinator with clinical programs

| Compensation: | Your earning potential is from $50,003.20 - $90,916.80 annually based on your experience and education. Benefits are provided through the Orange County EmployeesRetirement System (OCERS) . 12 holidays per year, plus generous annual leave benefits |
