MOVE/Me Muevo (Obesity Prevention & Control in Community Recreation Centers) is a 5-yr. study (2006-2011) funded by the Nat'l Institute of Diabetes and Digestive & Kidney Diseases to design, implement & evaluate a recreation site-based obesity prevention & control project in San Diego County for 7-9 year old children and their families by emphasizing physical activity & healthful eating choices.
Responsibilities: Under supervision of the Intervention Coordinator, this position will work with another Family Health Coach to implement & monitor project activities with a total of 270 families and children to ensure an integrated approach that emphasizes physical activity & healthful eating choices of 7-9 year old children. This Family Health Coach position will carry out the following activities with 135 families:
- Provide education & resources, and on-site guidance & training on physical activity & healthful eating
- Conduct phone consultations, home visits, and group education sessions at recreation centers on physical activity and healthful eating
- Develop & maintain family involvement throughout the duration of the project through consistent communication
- Coordinate & disseminate materials & resources that promote physical activity and healthful eating
- Coordinate & implement physical activity and healthful eating workshops for 18 families each at 15 different recreation center sites
- Guide families in utilizing community resources, especially community recreation centers
- Advise, conduct, & monitor goal setting to increase physical activity & healthful eating choices; provide ongoing feedback & recommendations
- Assist with pilot projects, the development of intervention materials, and the recruitment of children, parents & community health advisors to participate in this study

| Requirements: | Minimum Qualifications:
Experience working with diverse communities, particularly the African American community. Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in health, psychology, exercise & nutritional sciences, recreation/leisure, or related field OR additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis. Experience providing physical activity and/or healthy eating education to families and working with parents & elementary age children. Familiar with the San Diego area and knowledge of community recreation and health resources. Most work will take place during after school hours, early evenings, on weekdays and on some Saturdays (approx. 1 - 8 pm); must be flexible in dealing with schedule changes. Comfortable using computers, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, e-mail, and internet. Reliable transportation to travel to recreation centers and homes throughout San Diego County, fingerprint background check.
