Job Title:Postdoctoral Position
Company:UCSD - Twin Study of Chronic Widespread Pain
Location:San Diego, CA
Description:The NIH funded “Twin Study of Chronic Widespread Pain” at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) is seeking applicants for a 1-2 year post-degree research position. The study is a collaborative effort between investigators at UCSD and those at the University of Washington in Seattle, and is focused on identifying genetic and environmental contributors to chronic widespread pain in a community-based sample of twins. Control twin pairs and pairs discordant for chronic widespread pain are identified from the University of Washington Twin Registry and undergo an extensive assessment both at home and in the laboratory. Data from this study and others are also available on twins with other medically unexplained conditions (e.g., chronic fatigue syndrome, temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders), with a special emphasis on the role of psychological factors and stress/trauma.

The successful applicant will serve as a liasion between the study at UCSD and the data collection site at the University of Washington. The individual will play a leading role in analyzing existing data, preparing manuscripts, and developing new projects and future NIH grant proposals. There also is an opportunity to participate in data collection on pilot projects, develop areas of special interest, and to establish interdisciplinary collaborations. The successful applicant will participate in research meetings as well as clinical and research seminars.

Requirements:Suitable candidates will have a doctorate in psychology, epidemiology, public health, or related field, with strong analytical and writing skills, and demonstrated capability in sholarly research. The successful applicants will be highly motivated individuals with good written and oral communication skills, and interest in twin studies, chronic pain conditions, and behavioral medicine. The ability to work independently and as part of a research team is essential.
Compensation:A stipend is paid according to UCSD guidelines. Full time employees are eligible for health benefits and are entitled to University holidays, vacation time and sick leave.
