The Institute for Health & Aging (IHA) is an organized research unit at UCSF. The work of the Institute includes extensive and successful research, training and public service in the areas of aging, health, and health policy. In collaboration with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), IHA will manage data and review research requests on birth defects, which is the leading cause of infant mortality in California and the nation through the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program (CBDMP). The Research Analyst will provide scientific assistance to the CBDMP in areas such as data management, linkage of newborn blood specimens to specified data sets and development of guidelines for scientific research. Duties to include but not limited to the following: provide technical and scientific assistance to document and manage the Birth Defects Registry; assist in preparing the scientific guidelines for research involving prenatal blood specimens and the bio-specimen database linkage system; assist in collaboration with the Stem Cell and Cord Blood programs to revise scientific guidelines to promote successful and ethical research; provide scientific assistance to expand the Prenatal Blood Repository and assist with quality control. Assist with the review and approval of research projects that relate to the CBDMP; and assist and/or lead bill analysis in relation to birth defects or blood repositories.

Requirements:Bachelor's degree in public health, political science, social and behavioral science, or other related field and a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience. Excellent computer skills specifically with MS Word, Excel, Access Databases, etc. Knowledge of databases, IT, statistics, documentation techniques, or project management. Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing. The incumbent will also have the ability to identify, develop, and communicate the program and/or policy implications of the quantitative and qualitative data obtained from MCAH/OFP Branch stakeholders and program/population databases.
Preferred: Master’s degree in public health is highly desirable
