MOVE/Me Muevo (Obesity Prevention & Control in Community Recreation Centers) is a 5-yr. study (2006-2011) funded by the Nat'l Institute of Diabetes and Digestive & Kidney Diseases to design, implement & evaluate a recreation site-based obesity prevention & control project for 7-9 year old children and their families from diverse backgrounds throughout San Diego County. The project is offered in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities:

Under supervision of the Measurement Coordinator, the Process Evaluator will schedule and perform evaluations at 30 recreation centers and homes throughout San Diego County. Duties will vary over time, including but not limited to:

  • schedule evaluation visits
  • observe & evaluate recreation center physical activity facilities and vending machines
  • administer surveys and conduct interviews in person and by phone with recreation center staff & families
  • recruitment maintenance via phone, mail, and email with 270 control families
  • prepare evaluation materials & equipment in project offices
  • process, code, & file completed forms
  • ensure confidentiality of evaluation information collected
  • perform quality control checks & data entry
Requirements:Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is energetic, self-motivated & demonstrates a strong work ethic and attention to detail. Must be bilingual in English/Spanish to work with both English-speaking & Spanish-speaking families. Some college coursework, preferably in exercise, behavioral, or health sciences. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to: work well with children, families, and recreation center staff in diverse neighborhoods throughout San Diego County; complete detailed work accurately and efficiently; quickly learn & follow specific research methods & procedures; multi-task; be flexible in dealing with changing schedules and priorities; work effectively as part of a team; follow oral & written directions; lift & carry up to 35 pounds. Must be available to work variable afternoon / evening hours (12:00-8:00) Monday through Friday and occasional Saturdays. Comfortable using computers, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs & e-mail. Reliable transportation to travel and transport equipment to recreation centers throughout San Diego County (mileage reimbursement policy exists), fingerprint background check, proof of car insurance, valid California auto registration & driver's license, & current DMV report are required.
