Job Title:Research Assistant: Air Monitoring/Smoke-Free Homes Study
Company:Center for Behavioral Epidemiology & Community Health, SDSU
Location:Sky Park Court, Kearny Mesa
Description:Under the supervision of the project co-director, the research assistant will be involved in all aspects of focus group research on the use of air monitoring and feedback in homes to promote smoke-free homes.

This is a paid, part-time, temporary position
3-4 months in duration with the possibility of other research opportunities in the center once this position ends, depending on the needs of the ongoing research studies
Variable numbers of hours (~5-10 hours/week over the course of the next 3-4 months)

  • Assist with translation of data collection materials into Spanish
  • Screen and recruit study participants
  • Schedule, organize and set-up for focus groups
  • Data collection
  • Note-taking, transcribing and translating of focus group discussions
  • Other research tasks as needed (e.g., obtaining/organizing literature from library/internet) Administrative tasks and other tasks related to the study
  • Report writing
Requirements:
  • BS or MPH degree or related science/health care degree preferred (or in progress)
  • Must be able to work 5-10 hours per week in the office while not working in the field (WIC sites). Some weekend hours may be required
  • Weekly meetings are required
  • Reliable transportation and proof of insurance

Preferred Skills:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Prior experience or knowledge of focus groups is a plus, but not required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of the computer, Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Typing skills
  • Well organized with attention to detail
  • Dependable and able to meet deadlines
  • Interested in gaining research experience
  • Professional demeanor
  • Initiative
