| Description: | Position Summary
The Resource Specialist will staff the Maternal and Child Health Center (MCHC)’s Family Resource Center and will have primary responsibility for assessing and responding to requests for information and support from MCHC patients and families. Job duties will include: Assess patient needs and assist them to obtain health and/or social services by fielding requests for information from patients and staff; facilitate patients’ improved use of the health care and/or social service delivery system; provide reception/intake duties; and provide general clerical office support for the Family Resource Center.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Conducts intake assessment for patients and families presenting to the FRC.
- Respond to all inquiries, providing assistance, guidance and direction to visitors and patients.
- Provides information to patients and/or referral to internal or external services.
- Refers high-risk / high-need patients to appropriate SYHC staff.
- Documents all requests for information on a Log; tabulate monthly.
- Answers phones, greets all patients, employees, clients and visitors at the Reception area.
- Maintains FRC office and Waiting Room schedule.
- Receives and sends out messenger/courier items.
- Assists in recording phone calls and visitors.
- Performs light clerical duties to support the daily business activities of the location.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
- Maintains program specific records as required; submit reports, including activity, contact and mileage reports in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Maintains client contacts and case records. Data to be tabulated monthly.
- Attends training programs and meetings as authorized or directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Supervisory Relationship
Reports directly to Assistant Director, SYHC Center for Latino Research & Health Promotion.

| Requirements: | (Minimum level of education): High School Degree.
Certifications/Licenses Required: CA driver’s license with appropriate insurance coverage.
Experience Required
(Minimum level of experience): 1 year relevant experience.
Preferred: 2 years in the medical and/or social service field and working in a community based organization.
Verbal and Written Skills
Required to Perform the Job: Bilingual (Spanish/English). Good oral and written communication skills.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
Required to Perform the Job: Medical Terminology and use of computer. Strong customer service and administrative skills. Multi-task oriented, extremely detailed and organized. A team player with professional demeanor.
Equipment Used: Personal computer, Mega-West system, Fax machine.
Working Conditions and
Physical Requirements : Prolonged periods of sitting and standing, minimal walking, and telephone communication. May be required to work evenings and weekends. |
