Feasibility of latent tuberculosis screening among migrant farmworkers on the border (ADHS, PIMSA, UA/CONACYT)

Our main objectives are:

  1. To demonstrate utility and feasibility of detection of LTBI among migrant farmworkers, and to compare outcomes in the US and Mexico and;
  2. To assess follow-up of workers detected with LTBI and ability to link individuals to care.

Through additional funding, we have been able to expand this work to include further care for participating migrant farmworkers in conjunction with the Migrant Clinicians Network. These ojectives are:

  1. Compare the performance of TST and QFT-GIT, including level of agreement, in identification of LTBI in migrant farm worker populations residing on the Mexico-Arizona border.
  2. Identify correlates and predictive risk factors for LTBI among the migrant farmworker populations.
  3. Determine the feasibility of providing infected individuals with follow-up screening and treatment services.
