Dr. Carol Macera is a Professor of Epidemiology with over 25 years experience in the field of chronic disease epidemiology. After 17 years at the School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina, Dr. Macera spent 4 years as a Distinguished Fellow with the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA. During this time, she was team leader of the Epidemiology and Surveillance group in the Physical Activity and Health Branch and served as co-lead of the Physical Activity and Fitness chapter of Healthy People 2010. Since her arrival at SDSU in the fall of 2001, she has continued her interest in the measurement and surveillance of physical activity. She has over 120 publications and is continuing her research activities on the effect of physical activity on health, including adverse events such as injuries.
