Benjamin Aceves, a dual-degree Master of Public Health/Latin American Studies student, received the Fulbright U.S. Student Award to conduct research in Mexico. Under the direction of Dr. John Elder, Dr. Christina Holub, and the Center for Latin American Studies, he received funding for one year to work with the Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica (INSP) in Mexico City.
During his time in Mexico, he will join a research team to evaluate the implementation of a national policy aimed at reducing childhood obesity in Mexico. A component of this policy targets schools by promoting access to healthy foods and physical activity. The evaluation will help in identifying key resources needed by schools and communities to effectively implement the new policy.
