Max Fang and Asha Abdirahim, seniors in the School of Public Health, were selected from a competitive pool of student applicants to attend the 2017 California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education on November 4th, 2017 at CSU Channel Islands. The California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education is designed to acquaint undergraduate students with the experiences and opportunities afforded by advanced study within a particular academic discipline or profession. They will meet with over 200 representatives from graduate schools from across the nation to learn more about what they have to offer.
Max was selected given his interest in pursuing a career as a prosthetic and orthotic practitioner. His motivations stem from personal experiences as a Hmong refugee from Laos, and his desire to transform the lives of others. Asha was selected given her dual focus on Public Health and Foods and Nutrition, as well as her vast and complementary experiences in clinical and public health work. She is interested in how best to bring these fields together and identify the best next step for her.
Enjoy the bus ride with your fellow SDSU students and we look forward to getting an update when you return!
