Biography
Dr. Kathryn M. Barker is a Lecturer in the Division of Health Promotion and Behavioral Science at San Diego State University and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center on Gender Equity and Health in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health at the University of California San Diego. She is a lecturer for SDSU’s graduate course PH700: Poverty, Gender & Women’s Health. Trained in social epidemiologic methods, Dr. Barker’s research focuses on socio-contextual drivers, specifically gender socialization processes within adolescent peer groups, on adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights. Her findings inform public health programming and policy to address intergenerational cycles of violence, poor health, and gender inequity. Her research is based in the US and francophone West Africa.
