Bio

Arleen Gurfield graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Microbiology and a Master of Public Health in Environmental Health from University of Illinois in Environmental Health. Since 2007, Arleen has worked for the County of San Diego, first as a Disease Research Scientist and then as an Environmental Health Specialist. Currently, she is a Supervising Environmental Health Specialist in the Hazardous Materials Division of the County of San Diego, Department of Environmental Health & Quality. She is also the Hazardous Waste Technical lead for the County and Co-Chair for the Southern California Hazardous Waste Technical Advisory Group. Prior to the County of San Diego, Arleen worked for 8 years as a research scientist in biotech and pharmaceutical research and development. She has been a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) for the State of California and was also an REHS/Registered Sanitarian for the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA). She is passionate about environmental health and loves to teach students about her field of expertise and broaden their understanding of EH regulation and policy.
