“My name is Alanah Castillo, and I am a senior Public Health major with a Chemistry minor. I will be graduating summa cum laude in May 2019 and will continue my education at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health to pursue a Masters of Public Health in Health Policy and Management. As a first-generation college student at SDSU, I have been involved in a variety of student organizations, including Students 4 Public Health (S4PH), Dance Marathon (DM) at SDSU, and SDSU Ambassadors, and have held leadership positions through these organizations. In addition, I participated in a 10-week Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) fully-funded public health fellowship at the University of Michigan called the Future Public Health Leaders Program (FPHLP) during Summer 2018. Since August 2017, I have also participated in undergraduate research as a Health Services Scholar with Dr. Melody Schiaffino, a graduate professor in the School of Public Health, looking at health disparities related to hospital location and ownership.” -Alanah Castillo
