Requirements for Declaring the Major:

(1)   B or higher in PH 101; PH 290 OR 292

(2)   C or higher in BIOL 100 + BIOL 100L; BIOL 212; BIOL 211 (must obtain a C or better in BIOL 211); CHEM 100; PSY 101; SOC 202 OR PSY 280 OR STAT 119; SOC 101

(3) Have a cumulative GPA of 2.9 or higher

IMPORTANT: ALL pre-major requirements (e.g., prerequisite courses AND GPA requirements) must be completed prior to enrolling in major courses. Inability to meet all pre-major requirements prior to fall 2021 will add an additional year to your anticipated graduation date. If you have not completed any of the above classes, we strongly suggest you take them over the summer to remain on track to complete the degree in two years.

The following courses are offered in summer:

PH 101 Introduction to Public Health (3)

PH 292 History of Public Health (3)

BIO 100/100L General Biology (3) and General Biology Lab (1)

BIO 211  Fundamentals of Microbiology (2)

BIO 212 Human Anatomy (4)

CHEM 100 Introduction to Chemistry (4)

PSYCH 101 Introduction to Psychology (3)

STAT 119 Elementary Statistics (3)

SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology (3)

Please make sure to visit the SDSU Class Schedule website for the most up-to-date course offerings.

How to enroll in Summer courses: http://www.sdsu.edu/summersession

Students are strongly encouraged to complete all prerequisite courses prior to beginning fall enrollment at SDSU. Public Health major courses are only offered once per academic year (either fall or spring terms), and you must take them in lock-step sequence because each course builds upon one another.
