Dr. Erik D. Storholm, Ph.D., a new Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health at SDSU has just been awarded a 3-year grant to help end the HIV epidemic among racially and ethnically diverse transgender and non-binary (TGNB) individuals in California. This project represents a true academic-community collaboration in which Dr. Storholm was approached by the Los Angeles Trans Wellness Center which is the first-of-its-kind, standalone community center run for the trans community by the trans community. Through this collaboration, Dr. Storholm will work directly with key community stakeholders to study the process of bringing comprehensive, culturally appropriate and affirming HIV prevention services on-site, thereby overcoming many of the structural barriers that prevent TGNB people from seeking HIV services in other healthcare settings.
