Biography
Geysil Arroyo is a public health professional with 15+ years of experience, committed to creating an environment for everyone to enjoy a life with wellness and dignity. She was raised between Tijuana and San Diego, attended San Diego City College and Mesa College before transferring to the University of California—San Diego where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development. She became interested in public health while working in the Immunization Department at the County of San Diego where she conducted outreach to ensure children were fully vaccinated. Geysil’s passion for public health only grew when she became the coordinator for a wellness project to improve the health of residents of the Southwest Bronx. While working full-time as a project coordinator, Geysil completed her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, at the school of public health of Columbia University in New York City. She worked at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in a project to develop and implement wellness policies in both Harlem and the Bronx. In the last few years, Geysil has worked as a consultant and has been heavily active in her community. She is a Board member of the San Diego Community College District, the San Diego County Health Services Advisory Board and the Employee Rights Center—Labor’s Training and Community Development Alliance. At her neighborhood public school, Geysil serves on the Board of the Foundation, and she is the co-founder of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee (JEDI). Geysil is also a mentor with Reality Changers, an organization that prepares young individuals to become first generation college graduates and active members in their community. She lives in North Park with her husband and two children.
