Biography
Dr. Heather A. Pines is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at SDSU. Prior to joining SDSU, she was an Assistant Professor in the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science and the Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, where she maintains an appointment. Dr. Pines is a socio-behavioral epidemiologist whose research examines the impact of behavioral, social, and structural factors on HIV/STI transmission dynamics and prevention behaviors. Her research program leverages epidemiologic, social network, and genetic sequence analysis methods to inform the development and implementation of HIV prevention strategies, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), for sexual and gender minorities, sex workers, and persons who inject drugs in the United States and the Mexico-United States border region.
