Biography
Dr. Neil Klepeis is an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Environmental Health at the School of Public Health at San Diego State University. He also performs R&D with several non-profit and startup firms in the fields of public health, low-cost sensing, and health-related technology. His research focus is the measurement and modeling of environmental exposure to Secondhand Smoke, Thirdhand Smoke, and other environmental hazards. He has led landmark studies of tobacco smoke exposure in homes, vehicles, casinos, multi-unit housing, and the outdoors, and published a widely cited exposure-relevant national study of human activity patterns in the U.S. In Dr. Klepeis’ latest research, he is developing (1) personal exposure toolkits for use by youth in assessing and communicating about their everyday exposure, and (2) modeling and simulation frameworks for advancing scientific understanding, educating the public, and game-based learning.
