San Diego State University’s School of Public Health will offer a new program of study beginning in Fall 2022. Enrollment is now open for the Bachelor of Science in Public Health with an Emphasis in Environmental Health.

The program will differ from the generalist undergraduate degree program by including more coursework focused on physical and environmental science. Students pursuing this degree will receive instruction about many environmental factors important to human health, including toxicology, climate justice, water safety, sustainability, and more.

Environmental Health is a rapidly growing field and branch of public health that focuses on the relationships between people and their environment. It is a key element of any comprehensive public health system. The field works to advance policies, procedures, and programs to protect people and provide communities with healthier living environments.

Many of the courses in this new program will be led by faculty in the Division of Environmental Health within the SDSU School of Public Health, including Dr. Zohir Chowdhury, Dr. Karilyn Sant, and Professor Ken Calvert. In addition to supporting the new undergraduate degree emphasis in Environmental health, the Division offers the Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Environmental Health and the Master of Science degree in Public Health, with a concentration in Environmental Health Sciences.
