Biography
Dr. Brittnie E. Bloom holds a BA in Psychology and English from San Diego State University (SDSU) and a MS in Public Health from UCLA’s Fielding School in Community Health Sciences with a specialization in Health Promotion and Education. In 2021, she received her PhD in Global Public Health from the Joint Doctoral Program between SDSU and the University of California San Diego (UCSD). Dr. Bloom is a proud first-generation college student; as such, she participated in the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program as an undergraduate and the Yale Ciencias Academy as a graduate student — all programs geared toward supporting historically underserved populations as they pursue graduate study. Prior to completing her PhD, Dr. Bloom worked in student success programming at SDSU in the College of Sciences – specifically working alongside historically underserved and marginalized student populations (first generation to college students, LGBTQ+ students, students of color, students living with disabilities, women in STEM) who were interested in pursuing graduate study. Dr. Bloom loves working with students, especially in the classroom and has taught or co-taught a handful of public health classes, including Intro to Public Health, Careers in Public Health, Global Health and Program Evaluation for Public Health. In addition to multiple teaching appointments, Dr. Bloom holds a position with Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan as a program manager responsible for operating complex, multi-stakeholder incentive programming for Medi-Cal populations, and has recently started an evaluation company (Side of Change Consulting) with her colleague and friend Dr. Marissa Salazar. Dr. Bloom’s research interests and expertise are in sexual violence prevention and education and post-assault help-seeking behaviors.
